Kate's Monthly Take - November 2018

My cousin recently reminded me how much one can learn from music. It can build powerful connections between people and evokes so many memories. Music is a powerful thing and I need to listen to more! So this month I’m adding a new feature in my Monthly Take, called…”What I’m Listening To” and I hope that some of the songs will make it onto your playlists!

Enjoy my Monthly Take!

Kate's Monthly Take - November 2018

Mood

  • Tomorrow is a big day. Never in my lifetime have I felt that midterm elections were so important. I’m nervous, anxious and excited. Get out there and, ROCK the VOTE!

Currently Coveting

  • Fall is here and winter is looming. Chicago temps are dropping and I’m eyeing these eco conscious fleeces from Dudley Stephens. I can’t decide between the Park Slope or the Cobble Hill turtleneck but I know they will definitely elevate my standard uniform.

Favorite Product

  • Its sweater season and one thing that has saved many of my sweaters is this little tool from Remington. It shaves off all of the little pills of fuzz that find their way onto by most loved sweaters; bringing them back to life.

What I'm Reading

  • Thanks to a recommendation from a friend I’m reading, The Dinner List. I love it so far and the question is, which five people dead or alive would you chose to have dinner with?

What I’m Listening To

  • Thanks to a binge watching session of Outlander, I came across the song, “ A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall” written by Bob Dylan. There are many renditions of this song but I love this cover version by Walk Off the Earth.

What We're Reading the Kids

  • With Thanksgiving around the corner I found this darling and very appropriate book called The Kiddie Table. The illustrations are lively and If you have a tween in your household they will surely relate to this book. If you’re looking for Thanksgiving book ideas take a peek at my blog post from last year.

Instagram Handle

  • My love of children’s books is frequently highlighted on this blog and I love to follow book lovers on Instagram. Book.Nerd.Mommy is one of my favorites. She has excellent taste and often celebrates the books with recipes and/or crafts. Sounds like someone else, I know! But seriously, I wonder how she stores all of their books. I’m running out of space!

Guilty Pleasure

  • I’ve actually developed a healthy addiction for once! I’m loving taking SoulCycle classes. I leave my husband to feed all the hangry kids on Saturday mornings and take an hour for myself. So perhaps, that’s the part I feel guilty about.

I Need A Vacation

  • I can always use a vacation but I will settle for a trip aka travel with my family. We’re heading east this month on another road trip to New Jersey with pit stops in Cleveland and Manhattan. We can’t wait! We’re spending one night in the city and if we were traveling without kids I would love to stay at the 1 Hotel Central Park.

Shit My Kids Will Eat

  • Kid Tested & Approved - Fall temps always have me craving cozy comfort food. We recently made this slow cooker turkey chili. I especially love that the recipe includes corn because I’m always looking for ways to incorporate more vegetables into the kids diet. While, the kids didn’t love all the beans in it they did eat the chili especially when paired with corn bread and shredded cheddar cheese.
